Small DIY Projects That Will Get Your Home Ready for Holiday Guests

Our Take

We all love the holidays, but we often dread getting our home ready for those holiday guests. Even if they are only staying at your house a night or two, you feel the pressure to make your home spotless. If you still aren’t happy with the way your home looks after you clean it, consider some small DIY projects that will help to refresh your home. You can start by decluttering your closets so your guests have a place to put their things and you have a place to put all those wonderful new gifts. Then go through and get rid of or fix any decorations or household items that are broken. If something has been broken over a year, you should probably toss it. You haven’t needed it yet, so you most likely don’t need it at all. Next you can make the surfaces in your home shine. Clean or paint walls, scrub floors and polish wood. What about moldy or stained caulk and grout in your bathroom or kitchen. These are popular rooms during the holidays. Taking a day to clean these areas will transform the rooms and leave you less stressed about your guests spending time in them. Do the things that you have time to do and try not to stress about the rest. In the end, the holidays are about spending time with your loved ones, not about how good your house looks. Unless you have a judgemental mother-in-law.

‘Tis the season for big meals, festive gatherings and making memories that will last a lifetime. But hosting friends and family can be a daunting responsibility. In fact, nearly 40 percent of consumers say that entertaining guests is the most stressful part of their holiday season, according to a recent holiday survey. The good news is that there is still time to give your home a refreshed look.
