How to Clean a Messy Home and Get it Ready for Guests

Our Take

The holidays are a busy time, which probably means your house is messier then ever. Unfortunately for you it coincides with the time of year that you will most likely be having people in your home, whether for a party, a night or a whole weekend. How are you ever going to find the time to clean up the mess around your home and get it ready for family and friends? After all, you don’t want to become known as the one with the dirty house. The first step to tackling the clutter and dirt is to make a list. This will help keep you on track and give you an idea of how much time you need to get everything done. Your list should include all the rooms that are actually important to you event you are having. Then you can prioritize your rooms by which are the dirtiest and which ones people will be spending more time in. Once you have your list you can start to throw things away and declutter. It is hard to clean when you can’t even see the surfaces that you need to clean. When you are done decluttering, you can clean you kitchen and bathroom. These two rooms are always important when entertaining and they are also the most important to keep clean because of their functions. No one wants to eat food prepared in a dirty kitchen. Once you are done with these two rooms you can work your way through the rest of your room list. If you are short on time, make sure you set realistic goals. There is already enough stress on everyone during the holidays, you don’t need to add more to your life.

The holidays are pretty much here. I’m guessing that there are very few people who host holiday gatherings without feeling any stress at all. And if your home is messy (or worse than messy), you’re probably already experiencing panic at the thought of getting it clean and ready for the guests who will ring your doorbell in the next month or so.
