Dumpster Rental 101
So, you have a big home improvement project coming up. Maybe it is a renovation to your existing home, or maybe it is a full on add-on. Making changes to your home can be a challenging time. It is a big investment, and one that you want to see turn out exactly as you envisioned it. You want your contractor to understand exactly what you’re going for, and you want the work itself to go smoothly, ending on time and on budget. But what about after the project is done?
Many people have never dealt with a dumpster rental before, and some people even think they don’t need to bother with one. While not every single project out there is going to requite a dumpster, many will. In general, however much debris and garbage you might think your project will produce, it will end up producing more than that. So it’s important to think about your waste disposal needs ahead of time. If you’ve never rented a dumpster before, there are some basics to get familiar with.
The kind of dumpster rented for a construction job is known as a roll off dumpster. It’s called this because it does indeed have little wheels that allow it to be rolled onto or off or the delivery truck. These trucks are the big flatbed variety.
When you order a dumpster, one will show up on the scheduled date and slide the dumpster off onto the street or driveway where you want it. Some municipalities will require a permit for parking a dumpster, but your rental company will know all these regulations and how to take care of them.
The price of a dumpster depends on the size you want, which depends entirely on the scale of your project. When you see a neighbor renting a small dumpster for yard waste or a simple bathroom remodel, it is likely a 10 cubic yard dumpster, the smallest standard size.
When you see big corporate construction sites with oversize, extra long dumpsters they are probably 40 cubic yards. There is quite a range in between, so you can choose whatever is most suited to your needs.
You’ll be glad you decided to rent a roll off dumpster. Have it delivered before your project starts and keep it till the project is done, and you will be able to walk away with less clean up stress than you ever imagined.
