While we are in the business of providing dumpsters to be filled with unwanted items, we know there are people out there that prefer to dig through them for useful items. Dumpster diving is not an activity that we promote however if it is a hobby you want to give a try, there are some things you should know before starting. There are some safety concerns when it comes to crawling around dumpsters as well as legal concerns. Timing is also something you need to consider so that all of your effort doesn’t go to waste.  It is important to have a plan before your first outing. Do some research as to where they might be throwing out useful items such as old furniture or tools. If someone in your neighborhood is going to be cleaning out their house. Don’t just start going through their dumpster in the middle of the night. Instead ask them if you can look at the things they are throwing out before they even put them in the dumpster. It will save you both a lot of headache and effort. If you are planing on going through a commercial dumpster makes sure you check your local laws first and the signage around the dumpster. Getting a free chair is not worth tacking the chance of doing something illegal.
