Maryland Flood Cleanup

The last two days of April brought record breaking rain to the metro DC area, which brought one of the rainiest months on record to a  close. Recorded rainfall at BWI airport on Wednesday April 30th was over 3 inches and was almost 4 inches at Dulles airport. The two day long downpour, falling on the already soaked earth caused a number of problems in the area. Roads closures due to flooding and even collapsing happened around the region, as well as flooding in both homes and businesses.

Now that the sun is shining and the ground is drying out, it is time to cleanup the damage that was done. If your basement or your business saw water damage, don’t wait to clean up. Get the damaged items and moisture out of the space as soon as you can. The first step is to pump out any standing water that is still in your basement or home. Next, concenrate on determining what items can be saved and what have to be thrown out. You should consider renting a dumpster for this task, especially if your basement was carpeted. You will need to rip up the carpet and throw it out.  A dumpster will make cleanup quicker and take away the hassle of having to make trips to the dump. Furniture will need to be thoroughly examined and kept on a case by case bases. If you do need to throw it out, just rent a larger dumpster. They come in a variety of sizes to meet your needs no matter the size of the cleanup. Remember, not to take chances with anything that could grow mold. Finally, you need to dry out the space to ensure there is no mold growth in your house. This is one of the biggest dangers when water enters your home. If you have more questions on clean up, give us a call. We are here to help.
